Individual Psychotherapy or Psychoanalysis

Individual treatment is comprised of 45-minute, private and confidential, one-on-one sessions at a minimum frequency of once weekly, and up to five times per week. Duration can last anywhere from a few months to years (several years is a common minimum need, in order to address the kinds of issues for which people seek my help). People seek individual treatment for a wide range of personal reasons. These may relate to the following topics:

  • Relationships in work, family, romance, or social life

  • Career vision and development

  • “Workaholism,” high-pressure work, balancing work and personal life

  • Apathy, stagnation or motivation

  • Depression (may include symptoms like low mood, apathy, hopelessness, fatigue, under- or over-sleeping, frequent crying, guilt, irritability, low or excessive appetite, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty concentrating)

  • Anxiety (may include symptoms like excessive and difficult-to-control worry, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping soundly)

  • Compulsive behavior (may involve food, shopping, or sex, for instance)

  • Low self-esteem

  • Grief and loss

  • Sexual orientation

  • Gender identity

  • Navigating transitions (e.g., phase-of-life or career transitions, marriage or divorce, childbearing, empty nest, finding independence from family/partners, etc.)

  • Trauma (present, recent and/or past)

  • Navigating single life (all ages)

  • Mid-life and existential issues

  • Navigating unexpected life paths, turns, or outcomes

  • Illness, chronic and/or acute

  • Changing identity concerns (e.g. emerging adulthood, midlife, or aging and elder adulthood; gender; work-related; family-related; nationality-related; etc.)

Often people come for one (or more) reason(s), and discover several other underlying (unconscious) drivers for treatment as they are revealed in time.
